Boutique private house builder Charlcombe Homes Ltd has become the latest company to join the Habitat for Humanity / Home Builders Federation ‘HOPE Builders’ campaign. From this April, for every house that Bath-based Charlcombe Homes completes, they will donate enough to Habitat for Humanity for the construction of one safe, decent home in the developing world.

Raquel Rolnik, UN Special Rapporteur for Adequate Housing, said in a video message to the delegates of the second Housing Forum for Europe & Central Asia a paradigm shift is needed from the belief that the market can solve all housing problems. She emphasised as the ongoing crisis since 2008 demonstrates, we need to redefine the responsibility of states in providing social services, including housing.

Five international development organisations today open the second Europe and Central Asia Housing Forum in Geneva, Switzerland. The Forum will look at ways to address housing problems, develop affordable housing solutions for the poor on national and regional levels and bring together businesses and the public sector. It will also support the regional roll out of the UN Global Housing Strategy.
Kampala, Uganda, 5th April, 2013 — Habitat for Humanity and The MasterCard Foundation today announced the Uganda launch of a five-year partnership to expand existing financial institutions’ microfinance services, to allow low-income families in three African countries to improve and maintain their homes.

After the 11th March 2011 disaster, Habitat for Humanity’s efforts focused on providing and supporting volunteers to clear mud and debris from homes, community buildings and communal areas, such as parks and drainage canals.
