Get your church involved

Habitat for Humanity’s roots are Christian. Our founder, Millard Fuller, rediscovered his Christian faith at a point in life where he had become a driven self-made millionaire. He sold or gave away everything he had to settle on a farm in the deep South of the States, in a Christian community. There, he saw real faith in action as the community came together to help each other renovate or build homes. And he was determined to take this powerful concept out into the world, to enable Christians to demonstrate faith in action – but also, to involve those of other faiths or no faiths.

So, how can you as a Christian best support what we do with your church?

Organise a talk

If you’re new to Habitat for Humanity, in the first instance you would probably like us to come and give a talk at your church, about the issues of poverty housing, the solutions that Habitat for Humanity offers, and the scriptural basis of our work.

We need Church Advocates!

If you are already a seasoned supporter of Habitat for Humanity and would like to organise a service at your church or a Christian event in your community about the issue of poverty housing and homelessness, please get in touch – we have a host of resources we can provide you with, including PowerPoint presentations, ideas for services, activities for young people, collection envelopes, DVDs and much more.

Organise a team of volunteers from your church

Over the years, we have organised hundreds of teams of volunteers to go and help build or renovate homes alongside local people in the developing world. We can make all the travel arrangements, you just have to get your team together and raise some funds.

Many have found this to be a very powerful experience that they want to take back and talk about to their congregations, and indeed the wider community. Once you have seen the issues of poverty with your own eyes, and worked alongside those affected by it to help them in doing something about it, you probably won’t ever see the developing world in the same way again. And you will want to be part of the solution, to help bring God’s justice to a world in great need. Through Habitat for Humanity, you can!
